SMS Character limit
Simple SMS messages are usually 160 characters. If you keep with the 160 character limit you will be charged for 1 SMS message.
Long SMS messages are limited to 152 characters per message. When you send an SMS message over 152 characters the message will be split. Large messages are split into 152 character segments and sent individually before being rebuilt by the recipient's device. For example, a 288 character message will be sent as 2 messages and you will be charged for 2 messages, however, it will appear as 1 message to the recipient.
