In Dentally, we allow you to create your own treatments, allowing for a fully customisable list of services when creating treatment plans for your patients.

If you are an NHS practice in England or Wales, you can set these treatments to raise the appropriate NHS Claim band and Category when these are charted for an NHS patient, meaning that the correct UDA banding and patient charges are applied when submitting a claim.

Applying the correct NHS Treatment category and Banding to a treatment item is vitally important to ensure that the correct UDAs and fees are raised when a claim is made.

The list of NHS Treatment categories available to complete the Clinical Data Set of an NHS claim is controlled and updated by the NHSBSA and all of your treatments, where appropriate should contain both an NHS Band and a Treatment Category.

The Clinical Data Set of a claim is displayed at the top of the claim at the point of submission, this is your opportunity to check the information being sent:

Without a Band or NHS Treatment Category set, your charted treatment will not form part of a claim. You cannot edit the banding or category as you submit a claim (except to mark a treatment as Urgent when charting) so the settings of your treatment items should be correct.

Setting the NHS Treatment Category on your Treatment Settings:

The appropriate category should be selected from the list available. Some categories have been removed by NHSBSA but remain in place to enable claims which started before the changes were made to be sent. If this is the case, a message will be given against the treatment once set. NHS Categories which are no longer in use will not be sent where the claim is started after the date that the code was ceased - the Clinical Data Set area on your claim will inform you as to what is being sent.

Select the appropriate NHS Treatment category from the available list:

Setting the NHS UDA Band on your Treatment Settings:

You can choose the NHS UDA banding of the treatments which will be applied once charted.

Treatments can be set as:

Band 1 - 1 UDA

Band 2 - 3 UDAs

Band 3 - 12 UDAs

Band 4 (Urgent) - 1.2 UDAs

Band 0 - for specific non banded treatments such as Denture Repair where the weighting is applied by the NHS Treatment Category selected.

Where appropriate, treatments can be set as Urgent at the time of charting, which overrides the default banding. Treatments set as Urgent by default will apply a Band 4 weighting when charted automatically.
