How to add new treatment items

How to add new treatments and to your treatment list, a full breakdown of each treatment item setting.

How to add a new treatment to your treatment list

  • Navigate to 'Settings'.

  • Go to 'Treatments'.

  • Click 'New' to create a new treatment item.

  • Fill in the 'Details' and 'Description' tabs as required.

    • If you are a GB πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ NHS site, you will also see a section for 'NHS Options' that will need to be completed at this stage.

  • Once you are finished, click 'Save'.

  • You will then be able to fill in the additional tabs for:

    • Icons (if needed)

    • Pricing

    • Times

    • Fields (if needed)

  • Make sure you click 'Save'

πŸ’‘ Top tip: If you cannot see your new treatment item after creating and saving, please refresh your Dentally tab, you may need to do this on multiple machines.

A full breakdown of each treatment item tab

All required fields are marked with an asterisk * at the end.

Treatment item - Details tab

  • Treatment code: This can be numbers or letters and can be used to search. *

  • Nomenclature: This is the name you can use to search for the item. *

  • Patient friendly name: Allows you to override the nomenclature with a more 'patient-friendly name' if needed. This will show on invoices if entered.

  • Region: Allows you to choose where this item is charted.

  • Category: Add your new item to a category, can be added to more later on.

  • SNOMED Code: Can be selected from the pre-determined codes, If required

  • Tooth Status: Allows you to set the status of the tooth when charting the item, e.g. Missing, unerupted, extracted etc...

  • Appear on Invoice: Tick if you wish for this item to appear on a patient's invoice. Notes, for example, may be unticked so they do not show on an invoice.

  • Treatment indicates tooth is missing: Tick if you want this item to display the tooth as missing.

  • Include in the base chart list?: Tick if you want this to be displayed in the Base chart.

NHS Options (For GB NHS practices ONLY)...

If you do not fill in this section, you will NOT be able to sue this item on an NHS course of treatment.

  • Treatment is a filling: Tick if this item is a filling.

  • NHS UDA Band: Choose the relevant NHS UDA Band, this will affect the treatment price, and the UDAs awarded.

  • NHS Treatment Category: Select the correct NHS Treatment Category, this information is used to fill in your electronic claim form once the course of treatment is complete.

Cloud Imaging...

  • Treatment is a cloud imaging procedure: Tick this box if the item is to be used as an imaging procedure; you can then select the relevant procedure code from the pre-determined list.

Danger Zone...

Take care when making items active or inactive.

  • Treatment is active?: This will be automatically ticked when creating a new item, meaning as soon as you click save, it will be available for providers to start using.


Treatment item - Description tab

Under 'Description', you have the ability to add:

  • Default notes: That will appear when the item is charted.

  • Patient description: This should contain all the info the patient needs to know about the treatment.

  • Staff notes: Can contain any information that is relevant to staff only.

You may prefer to use 'Fields' to record data for this treatment too. We have a helpful article about creating custom fields here.

Treatment item - Icon tab

The 'Icon' tab allows you to specify the region and how the item will look once charted on a tooth on the patient's chart.

Treatment item - Pricing tab

The 'Pricing' tab allows you to set the pricing. This can be adjusted per surface if it can be charted on multiple surfaces.

For multi-site users, you can also filter by location to see relevant information against a specific item for each practice.

Treatment item - Times tab

The 'Times' tab allows you to set how long the default appointment duration should be for this treatment on a specified payment plan.

Again, this can be adjusted depending on the amount of surfaces if needed.

Treatment item - Fields tab

Here you can insert custom fields against the treatment item. This allows you to store additional information about a patient on a charted item.
