How do I send recall booking links for routine appointments through Dentally Portal?

If you’re a Portal user with Online Booking enabled and recalls set up, patients will receive a link in their reminder, asking them to log into the Patient Portal, where they can book and manage appointments.

💡 Top tip: Use the tag [patient_recall_booking_link] to send a secure unique link which will take the patient straight to booking without having to log in! You can add tags to your templates at any time.

What will patients see when they book a recall appointment online?

If you have used the recall booking link tag in your communications:

  • Patients will receive a personalised link in their reminder, taking them straight through to book an appointment.

  • They'll be asked to provide their date of birth to verify their identity, then they can select the date and time for their appointment – and then they’re all booked!

  • They'll then be taken to the main dashboard for the Patient Portal, where they can complete any outstanding action cards such as ‘Complete your details’.

If you haven’t used a recall booking link tag in your communications:

  • Patients can follow the link in their reminder through to the practice’s main login page.

  • After logging in with their email address and password, they’ll reach the main dashboard for the Patient Portal.

  • They’ll see the action card saying their routine appointment is due – they will need to click the card and follow the steps provided to book their appointment.

  • Once they’ve booked, they’ll be taken back to the main dashboard for the Patient Portal, where they can complete any further outstanding action cards.

💡 Top tip: You can use ‘Book together’ to allow patients to book multiple appointments together. ‘Book together’ is turned on by default, so if their due dates for dental and hygienist appointments are within 28 days of each other, the patient will be prompted to book both together.
