How to deal with the NHS claim error - Invalid XML

Error Explained

If you receive a response back from the board with the 'Invalid XML' error code, The first thing to double check is the information associated to that claim.

The XML errors will generally be due to missing or incorrect information.

How to resolve?

Please see below a few examples of common occurrences with the XML error code.

For claims that come back for a specific patient with the XML error code;

  • Patients address or postcode is in the wrong format.

  • Patient address or postcode contains an unusual character.

  • Surname that is less than 2 characters long.

  • Check all other patient details to ensure no errors in information.

For all claims for one provider or one contract bouncing back with the XML error code;

  • Could be contract details are incorrect.

  • Practitioner details have been entered incorrectly.

  • Surname is required to be at least 2 characters long.

Unfortunately, we don't have enough info from this error in particular to distinguish what exact part of the XML is at fault. The points mentioned above are just some of the common causes. However please always double check all contract details and practitioner details as part of your best practice resolution.
