The treatment chart is where you add treatments to be performed on the patient.

The Chart (with condensed charting DISABLED)

The centre two rows of teeth are the patient's base chart. The outer rows are where work is proposed and charted before it is committed to the base chart.

The Chart (with condensed charting ENABLED)

When using condensed charting, the inner two rows are the base and planned treatment all in one. In this screenshot, you can also see the Deciduous dentition, which is the outer two rows of round teeth.

Charting Options

The Chart options include the viewing settings, which allow you to switch between deciduous and permanent teeth or a mixed view of both. You can select from the following abbreviations in the top left of your chart to change what you are viewing:

  • PD - Permanent Dentition

  • PTD - Permanent Treatment Detition

  • DD - Deciduous Dentition

  • DTD- Deciduous Treatment Dentition

  • Base - Include Base Chart Items

The Drop down arrow next to your viewing options allows you to see more 'Charting options' such as:

Each of these settings is designed to help enhance and simplify your charting experience; let's take a look at what each of these options can do.

Treatment History of a Tooth

Hovering the mouse pointer over a tooth will show the history of treatment charted on it, showing who charted the treatment when it was charted, and the plan it was charted on or whether it is on the base chart.

Treatments

The Treatment list is shown on the left of the screen. You can search for the treatment you need by typing it into the Search box or by scrolling down the list.

The list, as a default, shows all treatments in the system, but you can filter this list in a few different ways to help find your desired code easily! Each dentist works differently, so find what works best for you out of the following options:

Use the drop-down box to filter your Favourites, You can click the star next to a treatment to add it to your favourites list. To remove an item from your favourites, click on the star again.

πŸ’‘Top tip, you can also use the Sort Options to tick to have your favourite always appear on the top of the list no matter which category you are in.

Sort Options (next to the search box) also allows you to choose whether you sort your treatment items by code or nomenclature.

Use the drop-down box to filter to your Base Chart items, This will filter the list to only show treatments that have been set as 'Available in the Base Chart'. This is configured under Settings -> Treatment and Plans. Find out how to enable this setting on your treatment items here.

Treatment Category, Each treatment can be assigned to a category; such as Restorations, Dentures, etc. These can be added and edited as needed. Discover more about adding and editing your Treatment Categories here.

Use the quick-find alphabet down the right-hand side of the treatment list, By clicking the blue digits here, you can jump to the desired letter/number for the code you wish to chart.

Treatment Plans

Each open treatment plan has its own tab underneath the main chart. Closed treatment plans can be found in the History tab.

To create a new treatment plan, click on the '+' button to the left of your open treatment plans.

You can also use the 'Duplicate' button to essentially copy and paste a treatment plan to a new course of treatment.

Or you can select a pre-created plan template from the 'Plans' tab in the top left if you have one set up. To find out more about setting up plan templates to help speed up your charting time, take a read of our article here.

The Base Chart tab

Clicking on the Base Chart tab will allow you to edit the patient's base chart.

The treatment chart lines will be greyed out, and items can be charted straight to the base using the normal treatment list.

The History tab

This will show the history of any treatments added for this patient. As a default, this list will be filtered to only show those treatments marked as Complete.

Changing the filter at the top of the list will allow you to show incomplete treatments too, or remove items added to the base chart.

Each treatment line in History that is associated with a plan and not a base item will have a blue TP button to the left. This will display the Treatment Plan that the treatment was recorded on.

BPE tab

Although not widely used in Canada, this tab will show any previous BPE Charts recorded for the patient and allow you to create new ones as needed.

  • Add a new BPE chart by clicking on the 'Record New BPE /BEWE' button.

  • A red marker will be shown on the tab if a BPE Chart is due to be taken.

Images tab

Here, you can upload radiographs and photographs taken of the patient. Any previously uploaded images will be displayed, you can hover over the image to download, edit or delete the uploaded image.
